2048: keep space for your next move

A large tile cannot save a crowded board on its own. In 2048, a useful plan keeps values organised while preserving room for the next slide.

Choose an anchor corner

Try keeping your largest tile in one corner with descending values nearby. This is a helpful guide rather than an absolute rule: inspect the whole board before sliding. An unnecessary move in the opposite direction can undo the order you have built.

Prepare merging chains

Equal tiles combine according to the game’s move rules. Sometimes it is better to bring smaller values together first, setting up a later slide that clears several cells. The move that immediately adds the most points is not always the most useful one.

Protect your empty cells

Before a risky slide, count the spaces and directions that will remain available. Use Undo to study an unsuccessful decision. A corner strategy can reduce disorder, but it does not guarantee a win: newly appearing tiles still require you to adapt.
